A Complete Suite, Not a Box of Readers

Whole Phonics is a comprehensive supplemental literacy suite. It gives teachers coordinated resources to reinforce foundational reading skills, support differentiated instruction and build reading fluency.

It is designed to complement the programs your teachers already use, including UFLI Foundations, Fundations and HMH Into Reading. Whole Phonics extends phonics instruction into meaningful reading practice.

The complete resource suite

Five Resources That Work Together

Every story comes with a lesson, a workbook, a fluency play and a take-home copy, so instruction, practice and home reading all line up.

1

Teacher Guides

Reading Ready for Whole Phonics guides, co-developed with Dr. Katie Pace Miles, give scripted, explicit and systematic lessons.

  • Up to 9 days of instruction per skill
  • Phonemic awareness, letter-sound and word practice
  • Writing, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension
  • Built-in differentiation and online resources
2

Decodable Books

Real stories with a complete beginning, middle and end, written so every word follows a pattern students have been taught.

  • 100% decodable, with no guessing or picture cues
  • 15 books per level, 3 per new sound
  • Target sounds, high-frequency words and comprehension questions inside each cover
  • 55 titles across the series
3

Story Companion Workbooks

Each book has its own workbook pages, so students practice the exact patterns in the story they just read.

  • Word and sentence reading
  • Spelling and high-frequency words
  • Comprehension practice
  • A game for every story
4

Reader’s Theater

The Let’s Play! series turns each story into a short script for repeated, purposeful reading.

  • Builds fluency and automaticity
  • Great for small groups and partners
  • Students read with expression and confidence
5

Take-Home Readers

Black-and-white versions of every book so students keep reading at home.

  • Extends practice beyond the school day
  • Brings caregivers into reading
  • Pairs with optional workbook pages at home
What sets it apart

Stories with a Complete Narrative Arc

Most decodable books don’t foster engagement or comprehension. Every Whole Phonics book has a real plot with a beginning, problem and resolution, so students practice comprehension strategies, not just decoding.

Diverse, multicultural characters and their animal friends come back book after book. Kids get attached and ask for “the next one.”

Whole Phonics

“As soon as my granddaughter started making her way through the Whole Phonics readers, the code started to make sense to her and her reading took off. Over and over she demanded to read the ‘next book.’”
